Tommy Turbo and The Turbervilles are a three-piece Indie/Soul band based in North Staffordshire. They are a breakaway band from the once successful "Raphaels" which were composed of Dan Taylor, George Farr, Rob Harvey, Chris Harrisson & Tom Lovett.[1] After joining the label in late 2007, Raphaels cycled through various band names, costing the SONS Ltd over £100 in domain names. The band finally settled on Raphaels. Under this new title the band released their debut single – ‘Charming Man’ in February 2007. The release scored an Indie Chart No.4 It was noted for its quirky arrangements and catchy melody[2] and received national airplay across BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Xfm.

In 2008 the band revived a warm reception playing three SONS Showcase nights in The Victoria Hall, however in late 2008 Tom became frustrated with not being solely in the limelight and tensions began to ride high in the band. After a flurry of disagreements and arguments, Tom Lovett and Rob Harvey broke away from Raphaels, recruited a new drummer Joe Rushton and set about once more on finding a name. February 2009 during a tea break at SONS Ltd, Seb Clarke discovered that Tom was a snob, and that his middle name was ‘Turberville’. Clarke quickly set about convincing the band to adapt this into their hunt for a band name thus Tommy Turbo and The Turbervilles where born.

They entered the studio in Spring 2009, armed with new songs and set about recording sessions. their first single "(Her Name Is) Sophie" was released on April 2010, and it reached number 28 in the UK Independent Charts.
